SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) is an important aspect of customers’ implementation of SAP S/4HANA and journey to the cloud. ASUG members gathered earlier this month to hear the latest results from ASUG research conducted about SAP BTP and discussed how to leverage the platform effectively.
“SAP BTP is a critical—and as good as a mandatory—component for SAP S/4HANA,” Vikas Lodha, Chief Solution Advisor for SAP BTP, said during the ASUG BTP Community Alliance Town Hall.
The platform pulls together many functions necessary to running an ERP platform—including integration, data analytics, and application development—so SAP customers can easily innovate in cloud environments. As enterprises plan their implementation strategies ahead of the 2027 end-of-maintenance date for SAP ERP 6.0, many are determining how to effectively use SAP BTP to facilitate their journeys to SAP S/4HANA and the cloud.
These are important conversations. ASUG research reveals that among BTP users, 46% feel their enterprises are not fully leveraging SAP BTP (compared with 23% who feel they are making the most of the solution). Commonly cited barriers included a lack of knowledge, cost factors, lack of business readiness, and competing IT priorities.
Lodha outlined how SAP BTP can help companies tackle specific business problems. For example, if organizations want to build SAP Fiori solutions—like the 47% of survey respondents who indicated application development was important for their organizations—SAP BTP is necessary.
In addition to application development, other important SAP BTP features include integration (75%), analytics (51%), process automation (39%), and artificial intelligence (23%), according to survey respondents.
ASUG also gauged the benefits Members experienced leveraging SAP BTP. These include:
- Connecting business applications and data across the enterprise (61%)
- Driving better decisions with analytics and planning (32%)
- Customizing or extending SAP applications while keeping the core application clean (27%)
- Providing the ability to quickly respond to business and customer needs (27%)
- Automating and optimizing business processes (25%)
During the Town Hall, attendees discussed AI capabilities in SAP BTP, how SAP Signavio fits into the platform, and how the solution enables—and enhances—cloud migrations. Watch the full Town Hall here.
